Party Tym

Lanterns and tie streamers on lines across room

Cute party decorations, remember this for next bday
"Parti." No, not "party." It's short for "parti pris," French for "to make a decision." In archispeak it means the big idea behind the design of the project. While an architect may not verbalize the parti to you, rest assured that he or she has one. The next time you sit down with your architect
makes decorating a snap. If you want to make a big visual impact, try picking a color scheme early on and stick to it. Having everything coordinated creates a rich, cohesive look, even if you're using simple paper plates and cups. Paper lanterns, streamers and old-fashioned straws are cheap and cheerful

Flowers are special for every occasion but special mention should be made of weddings. You cannot imagine a wedding without floral decorations. The tradition of using flowers during wedding goes a long way. It has begun from the ancient times when herbs and spices were used for keeping the evil spirits at bay.

Flowers are intoxicating. William Wordsworth described flowers as 'a poet's darling'. It has been rightly said in the Koran that 'Bread feeds the body, indeed, but flowers feed also the soul'. Flowers are wonderful for any special occasion. They build a beautiful and glowing environment. In fact, flowers have a language of their own to express emotions and sentiments.

Further, the Wedding Flower Decoration should echo the same theme throughout the decoration of wedding with the other wedding decorations like linen, lighting and the rest of the things. In fact, before finalizing the floral dcor, discuss the shape, color and size with your designer. You can also add up balloons with blooms and also set statues and props combinations. With the floating candles you can also float flower petals. It would be a very romantic visual for all to admire. In fact, topiaries are also nice for wedding d cor. You can also invest in some of the commercial flower arrangements to put up on the grand wedding day.

After making the floral arrangement for the wedding you would find how an ordinary venue can turn into breathtakingly beautiful place.

Flora Craft for a CAUSE

This project undertaken under the umbrella activities of Flora-Craft is an initiative to work with the tribal women of Sholayur, Kerala, India, to help sustain them economically and bring about better living conditions among them. These women are not able to do the hard work that working in the fields entails, due to some disability or ill health or old age, because of which they are not able to bring in income for their households. Their men folk either drink away the money, or the money they bring in is not enough. These women will be trained to work in pottery. They will then work on job work basis to earn a decent living. Anyone buying Flora-Craft products is in fact contributing toward the welfare of these tribals.

Further, we will be working with natural products like arecanut leaves and pods and fruits to make elegant vases and pots as home décor items. These will be hand made items again made by the tribals of Sholayur.

We are currently not accepting donations for this project as we do not have 80G exemption facilities, nor do we have the drive to raise such funding. We want to raise money for this initiative through sales of the products of Flora-Craft.

The project will cost us Rs. 15 to 17 Lakhs (Rs. 1.5 to 1.7 million). This is to build a 40x60 covered shed, a couple of washrooms, storage facilities and potter's wheels and kilns for firing on my 2 acre property. This is apart from the consumables cost.

75% of profit margins will go toward the fund allocated for this project and the remaining 25% towards the overhead costs of running Flora-Craft. We would like to get started on the construction and training within the next 12 months. We have a long, long way to go, as it is not easy to raise this kind of money within this short time.

Anybody buying Flora-Craft products will in actuality be contributing to the welfare of these poor people. Therefore I encourage all who read this post, to send in their requests for Flora-Craft products by email to sheila.mathews.09@gmail.com. The Flora-Craft Website will be up shortly which will then provide you an easy way to select your product and pay for the same.

Please don't just like my stuff; buy them!

Thank you in advance to all who wish to support this cause!

Flowers and their Meaning

In Victorian times, certain flowers had specific meanings because the flower selection was limited and people used more symbols and gestures to communicate than words. But today, with so many flower choices, there are no rules - it's the sentiment that gives the gift its meaning. Many people assign their own personal meanings - a flower or color that might remind them of a special event or moment in their lives. As the saying goes, 'say it with flowers!' And indeed, people have been saying it with flowers since time immemorial, using the special meanings of flowers to express all kinds of emotions. Whether to woo somebody special on Valentine's Day, display affection on Father's Day or Mother's Day, or to express a 'get well soon' message for somebody ill, flowers have been used to say it all. In fact, the symbolic meaning of flowers has given birth to a language of its own, known as floriography.

Apart from each of the names of flowers being imbued with symbolism such as romance or sympathy or affection, all flowers express specific phrases as well. As a matter of fact, the Victorians were the ones who used flower symbolism most profusely to communicate subtly what they wanted to say, but could not speak aloud since decorum would not allow it. With flowers, and their symbolic meanings, they could verbalize communication without saying anything or evince a feeling. Thus, the Victorians would often make a bouquet that they could use as an expression of an unvoiced message to the person receiving it, using various kinds of symbolism like the number, the arrangement, the color, and of course the type of flower. For those interested in the historic meanings of flowers, the Society of American Florists has compiled this list from a variety of different sources:
